What We Do

Ubuntu Food Security’s programs are rooted in connection — to the earth, to one another, and to the shared belief that food is a right, not a privilege. Each program is designed to empower families with knowledge, nourish communities through access, and celebrate the power of food to heal and unite.

Ubuntu Community Gardens

Provide an image that include black and brown families in a more realistic setting

From city blocks to schoolyards, we create thriving green spaces where families learn to plant, harvest, and cook fresh produce together. Our gardens are more than places to grow food — they are classrooms for wellness, hubs for connection, and spaces where neighbors nourish both body and spirit.

Community Food EventsCommunity Luncheon

Ubuntu hosts seasonal food gatherings that bring warmth and nourishment to those most in need.
Our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon provides warm plant-focused meals and grocery boxes to families experiencing food insecurity — offering not just food, but dignity and community. Throughout the year, we also hold pop-up produce markets, mobile pantry days, and harvest festivals, ensuring fresh, healthy food reaches every corner of our neighborhoods.

Nutrition & Food Access Workshops

Our Nutrition Education Workshops address real challenges like food deserts, access barriers, and cultural food traditions. Through interactive sessions, we teach families how to make the most of their resources, read labels, and prepare affordable plant-based meals that support health and resilience.
These workshops also connect participants with nutrition education and community resources, empowering them to advocate for healthier, more equitable food systems in their neighborhoods.

Sow - Sprout - Savor

Make it more diverse to include black and brown children

Empowering youth through cooking, gardening, and storytelling.
This after-school initiative connects culture, creativity, and nutrition in a joyful, hands-on way. Children learn where food comes from, how to grow it, and how to prepare simple, plant-based meals that reflect their heritage and build lifelong healthy habits.

Food Justice & Advocacy

Ubuntu believes that access to nutritious food is a matter of justice. Our advocacy efforts focus on tackling systemic inequities that create food insecurity in Black and Brown communities.
We work alongside local organizations and schools to raise awareness, share data, and push for policy changes that expand access to affordable, fresh food for all.

How You Can Help

When we share food, we share hope. Ubuntu thrives because of community collaboration — volunteers, local farms, educators, and neighbors all play a part in growing our impact.
